CranioSacral Therapy
How does CranioSacral Therapy work?
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a non-invasive, gentle touch technique, which is used to improve whole-body function. Using approximately 5 grams of pressure on various areas of the body, I will evaluate and release restrictions in the craniosacral system.
CST focuses on the central nervous system, the command centre for the body, which is why it can be used to address so many different and often complex conditions. By improving the function of the central nervous system, CST aims to improve the body’s ability to heal and self-correct itself. As a practitioner, I aim to release restrictions that may be impacting the craniosacral system (the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid) that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord. CST balances the autonomic nervous system, allowing for a deep relaxation which allows the receiver to function better.
By facilitating the body's natural and innate healing processes, CST may be used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and may also be effective for helping people with a wide range of healthcare challenges associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
-
Headache and migraine
-
Hormonal dysfunction/imbalance
-
Infertility
-
Chronic neck and back pain
-
Central nervous system disorders
-
Alzheimer's and dementia
-
Chronic fatigue syndrome
-
Emotional difficulties
-
Stress and tension related problems
-
Fibromyalgia
-
Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ)
-
Neurovascular or immune disorders
-
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
-
General musculoskeletal pain
What is SomatoEmotional Release?
SomatoEmotional Release (SER) is a therapeutic process used in CranioSacral Therapy that helps to release emotional energy of past traumas that has been retained, suppressed and isolated within the body.
The aim of SER is to discover and release the adverse effects of past physical and emotional traumas from the body, mind and spirit, as well as to facilitate the realization of their effects on our physical, emotional and mental health.
CranioSacral Therapy – What to expect
CST is completed fully clothed. Wear something comfortable and if your feet tend to get cold, wear socks because I will ask you to remove your shoes.
What happens during a session?
You’ll lie on your back on a massage table for most of the sessions, if not all.
-
I usually begin at your feet and work my way up to your head, providing a full body healing experience.
-
The session consists of gentle touches at key pressure points to identify and release energy blocks and tension.
-
You can expect to experience very deep relaxation, and may even fall asleep (which is completely normal and okay).
-
Sometimes clients feel a sense of emotional release which is common during body and energy work. You may even feel strong physical sensations. While this may be a new experience for you and can sometimes be intense, let yourself feel whatever comes up. I will be there to guide you through the process.
-
I may incorporate acupuncture or acupressure during my CST sessions depending on individual evaluation.
What happens after a session?
For the two to three days following a session, you’ll want to stay hydrated and tuned into how you are feeling. Note any changes in how you feel physically and emotionally.
-
Many clients feel a strong sense of calm after each session that can sometimes last a few days.
-
You’ll notice a difference after just one session, but it may take several sessions to reach your wellness goals.
